Purpose


The City of Savannah Facilities Maintenance Division is seeking a dedicated and skilled Electrician to support the maintenance and operation of City buildings and facilities that require ongoing service and repair. The successful candidate will work closely with the Facilities Electrical team to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install electrical systems and components.

In addition to electrical duties, this position may assist with general maintenance and repair work involving buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities. Responsibilities may include semi-skilled work in plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, masonry, custodial services, and other maintenance-related projects.

This role is responsible for helping ensure that the operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems comply with all applicable laws, codes, regulations, and safety standards. Duties include conducting routine inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential issues, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs, and taking appropriate corrective action to resolve deficiencies or violations.

The ideal candidate must communicate effectively with City staff, vendors, contractors, and the public while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service.

As the City’s Electrician, you will perform skilled and complex work in the maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction of public facilities and other City structures, with a primary focus on electrical systems and infrastructure.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform complex maintenance and diagnostic services for masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and similar systems maintenance, repair, or construction of City facilities or structures. 
  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs various electrical components.
  • Receive and review various records and reports including work requests, plans, specifications, etc.
  • Installs, alters, maintains, repairs, and examines electrical wiring systems, fixtures, panels, motors, generators, transformers and other electrical equipment.
  • Performs mechanical assembly and disassembly of electrical components.
  • Uses standard and special electrical tools and equipment such as wire locators, voltmeters, ammeters, power meters and other related tools.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains door hardware.
  • Installs, repairs, and finishes drywall. 
  • Installs and repairs various types of flooring. 
  • Installs and repairs drop ceiling tiles.
  • Installs wall-mount TV’s, dry erase boards, and pictures. 
  • Installs, moves, and repairs furniture. 
  • Estimate and procure compatible materials and tools required to perform maintenance, repair and construction-related functions. 
  • Maintain appropriate work records and documents, including work orders and formal and informal inspections. 
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance and repair requirements and priorities. 
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency service calls, diagnoses problems and makes minor repairs. 
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED plus two (2) years of experience in general electrical work or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience performing carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, masonry and minor construction maintenance and repairs a plus.
 
Must possess and maintain valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Work Location: 5 Interchange Court    Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
